The experience at the potter’s wheel – from kneading the clay, to working the wheel, and conceiving and executing the desired object – can be a deeply meditative process that suspends the participant in a state of timelessness.

When you drive or walk through the streets of Jaipur, particularly the walled city, you will encounter potters everywhere, selling simple pots, pans, plates, griddles, glasses and multiple other items of everyday use—all biodegradable and environment-friendly—that are still part of the daily lives of the local people. When you stop in the market for a cup of hot chai or a glass of lassi, it will most likely be served to you in a hand-fashioned clay container.
